The Catawba Indian Nation announced it will expand its Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, 35 miles west of Charlotte. Tribal officials said due to “overwhelming success” since opening July 1, the casino will add 500 new gaming machines, bringing the total to 1,000 at the temporary, 14,700-square-foot facility, made up of single-story modular units.

Site work on the expansion began in September and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, while planning continues for the tribe’s larger, permanent $273 million Two Kings Casino Resort at the same location. Officials said, “The Catawba Nation and its consultants, including Delaware North, SOSHNY Architects and developer Skyboat Gaming, are simultaneously continuing planning and development work on the permanent casino resort project. The timing for construction of that project is also being determined.”

Catawba Nation Gaming Authority President Mike Ulizio said the tribe wants to finish the expansion “as quickly as possible” since the casino has done so well. “With the overwhelming success of the Catawba Two Kings Casino’s pre-launch facility since opening, it makes sense to work as quickly as possible to provide additional gaming opportunities for our patrons across the Charlotte region,” Ulizio said.
