Two to open in August

A European subsidiary of U.S.-based gaming company Century Casinos Inc. has been awarded an eighth gaming license in Poland.

According to GGRAsia, the Nasdaq-listed company’s Casinos Poland’s portfolio now includes three casinos in Warsaw and one each in Wroclaw, Katowice, Bielsko-Biala, Krakow and Lodz. Its Krakow casino was due to open in June, and its third casino in Warsaw and its Lodz casino are set to open in August.

The company also owns and operates casinos in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Vietnam as well as casinos on cruise liners.

In a statement, Century CEO Erwin Haitzmann said, “We are very pleased that the important license tenders in Poland have now been completed and we will soon operate a total of eight casinos in Poland.”

Joint CEO Peter Hoetzinger was quoted as saying, “The Polish casino market continues to be robust and we look forward to generating solid and sustainable returns.”

In April, an Austrian unit controlled by Century Casinos acquired 51 percent of a company with the right to operate a small gaming hall at a hotel in Vietnam’s Cao Bang Province. Resorts Management GmbH took a controlling share in Hong Kong-listed Golden Hospitality Ltd. for a total consideration of US$560,000. The Vietnamese administrative area shares a border with the Mainland China provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi. Casino gaming is illegal in Mainland China, but several casinos on Vietnam’s northern border cater to Chinese tourists.
