Las Vegas-based Circa Sports will partner with Century Casinos to bring sportsbook to the Century Casino Cripple Creek in Colorado, where sports betting will become legal May 1. Voters approved sports wagering in November.

Circa Sports was founded as a wagering platform last year by casino owner Derek Stevens. This 15-year deal will be the company’s first venture out of state. It currently operates retail sportsbook at both D Las Vegas and Golden Gate Casinos, which Stevens owns.

Circa will provide online and sports betting for the casino. It will not provide retail sports betting within the casino itself.

Casinos are awaiting regulations on sports betting that are expected to be issued within the next few weeks by the Colorado Division of Gaming.

Stevens is building the Circa Casino Resort in Las Vegas, the first completely new hotel casino in four decades. It is scheduled for a December opening.

Stevens told CDC Gaming Reports that he wasn’t interested in retail sports betting in Colorado. “I was more interested in maximizing our spend on marketing, as opposed to a retail book,” he said. “We would rather spend our initial investment on marketing Circa throughout Colorado.”

His goal, he said, is for Circa Sports to be a leading provider of sports futures and higher sports betting app limits in multiple states.

“I’d rather move more strategically than everywhere,” he said. “There are some states we don’t have interest in. Colorado, however, came to the forefront pretty quickly for us and we’re excited about that.”
