Century Casinos held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 4 at its new $30.5 million, 68,000-square-foot Riverview Hotel, located beside and connected to the Century Casino Cape Girardeau in Missouri. The 6-story tower offers 69 rooms, many with views of the Mississippi River.

According to KFVS, Hotel Manager Loren Ramirez said, “One thing that we’re really excited about is to bring a lot of the flavor from Cape Girardeau. The construction consisted of a lot of local contractors and everything from our gift shop, which is locally sourced, to the staff that we’re bringing is all local.”

Just a few days later, on April 8, Century Casinos commemorated the solar eclipse by burying a time capsule at the new hotel, containing a U.S. flag and a Missouri state flag that both have flown over the Missouri capitol in Jefferson City.

The capsule also contains special notes written by visitors. Its location will be noted by a special marker, according to Century Casinos Vice President and General Manager Lyle Randolph, who added the capsule will not be opened until the next total eclipse seen in Cape Girardeau in 2343.

Century Casinos officials also noted the company’s $51.9 million land-based casino under construction in Caruthersville, Missouri will be completed in the fourth quarter 2024. It will offer a gaming floor with 650 slots (expandable to accommodate 140 more machines) and gaming tables, plus a 38-room hotel, deli and bar. The project is being funded through VICI Properties.
