Century Casinos Inc. recently submitted an application for a casino license at the Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club in Hamilton, Bermuda jointly with the company that owns the property. The application is the only one that has been submitted to date. Currently there are no casinos on the island nation.
Approved in 2014, the Bermuda Casino Gaming Act in 2015 spelled out a three-stage application process for casino licensees. The first stage granted one of two “designated site orders” to the Hamilton Princess in 2016; up to four licensed integrated resort casinos potentially could operate on the island. In the second stage, which started in April, the commission published a notice kicking off a three-month period for filing a casino license application, ending July 21. The third stage will be the suitability stage; when it’s concluded, the commission will have final approval whether or not to grant the license.
The Century Casinos/Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club casino would offer 12,000 square feet of gaming space with 17 gaming tables, 200 slot machines, automated roulette, high limit area and salon privé.
Century Casinos, through its Austrian subsidiary Century Casinos Europe GmbH, has a long-term management agreement with Hamilton Properties Limited, the Bermudan company that owns the Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club. Under the agreement, CCE assisted with the license application and would manage casino operations if a license is awarded. Also, CCE would also provide a $5 million loan for casino equipment.
Recently renovated, the 130-year-old Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club offers 400 rooms, 45 suites, 13 junior suites, four restaurants, a spa, retail, 15,000 square feet of meeting space and a beach club with an exclusive beach for hotel guests.
