Century Expands in Canada

Multijurisdictional operator Century Casinos has extended its brand in Alberta with the opening of a new destination near Edmonton, its sixth in the western Canadian province. The US$46 million Century Mile Racetrack and Casino (l.) features 550 slots and e-tables, VLTs, a video gaming area, off-track betting and live thoroughbred and standardbred racing.

Century Casinos has opened a new casino and racetrack near Edmonton in the Canadian province of Alberta.

The 89,700-square-foot Century Mile Racetrack and Casino, developed at a cost of US$46.6 million, is located near Edmonton International Airport in Leduc County and close to the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, the main corridor between Calgary and Edmonton and one of busiest routes in western Canada.

The venue features a betting area, a casino with 550 slot machines and electronic table games, 14 video lottery terminals, a REPLAY gaming stadium with 28 play stations and an interactive digital wall display, off-track betting, a restaurant, bar and lounge and indoor and outdoor grandstand seating, three private suites and a bar, buffet and grill.

The one-mile track will host both thoroughbred and standardbred racing.

Colorado-based, publicly traded Century (Nasdaq: CNTY) owns five other gaming and racing venues in Alberta along with two casinos in Colorado, a seven-casino chain in Poland, casinos in England and Argentina and gaming partnerships with three ocean-going cruise lines.
