Last week Jonodev Oscelola Chaudhuri became the 7th chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell administered the oath.
The commission the Muscogee Creek Indian now heads regulates and ensures the integrity of over 450 Indian gaming facilities operated by 242 tries in 28 states. He has been acting chairman since October.
The new chairman remarked, “I would like to thank President Obama, the Senate, Secretary Jewell and those in Indian country who have supported my nomination.” He added, “There is important work ahead of us at the NIGC. I am committed to continuing our collaborative efforts with tribes and tribal regulators to achieve regulatory compliance and gaming integrity in an industry which is a vital economic development tool for so many tribes.”
In the few months he has been in charge of the commission Chaudhuri has accelerated its training of tribes and tribal regulators and shown an interest in the agency’s staying at the leading edge of technology by adding a technology division.
