The South American nation of Chile plans to open a competitive iGaming market.
Lawmakers will introduce a bill to regulate iGaming sometime in the new two months. It will also include sports betting, online casinos and other online gaming.
The Ministry of Finance says this could generate as much as $210 million in additional taxes, which would help pay for monitor the activities of licensed operators. It plans to push legalization whose purpose would be to establish a competitive market and protect consumer health and safety.
It plans another bill to update land-based casino regulation. Its purpose would also be to help generate taxes to help the country recover from the effects of the pandemic.
In a statement the Ministry said, “Casinos are relevant for the economic development of the country both in their contribution to the financing of the municipalities and regional governments through the payment of taxes and in the development of tourism in the regions.”
