The Cirsa Group, Spain’s largest casino operator, announced it has placed two bids for casino licenses in the Principality of Andorra, wedged between the borders of Spain and France. The Andorran Gaming Control Board is managing the bidding process. In a statement, Cirsa officials said, “For 15 years, and especially since the publication of the list of conditions in July, Cirsa, together with Georges Kapital as a partner, have been assessing the viability of the project from a technical and economic standpoint and has finally presented two proposals for different locations in the Principality.”
One proposal covers the casino Cirsa Andorra Escaldes Engordany, a new development that would open in 2020 in the El Clot d’Emprivat area in Escaldes-Engordany. It would offer 27,000 square feet over three floors, including gaming and non-gaming space, with an upscale restaurant, bars and event rooms and a terrace for live music and other events.
The second proposal, the casino Cirsa Andorra Caldea, would be located in the spa resort town of Escaldes- Engordany and open in 2018. It would use two floors not currently in use at the Parque de La Mola de Escaldes-Engordany and include a gaming floor, upscale restaurant, bars and event rooms.
According to CRAJ requirements, the winning operator first must establish the land or premises is available, with at least 25,000 square feet allowed for public space, excluding terraces and outdoor spaces. Then points will be given for criteria including design and location, development time, economic benefits and number of jobs created.
