Claremont: Treanor’s Past Not a Factor

Michael Treanor, the casino executive who stepped down from his position as CEO of the proposed Nevele Casino and Resort after the New York Post uncovered a sexual indiscretion, has been reinstated.

Michael Treanor is back as CEO of the proposed Nevele Casino and Resort project in upstate New York, reports the New York Post.

Treanor resigned after the newspaper reported allegations that he sexually attacked his sister, and then said in court papers it was consensual. Now Treanor’s team says the 2007 incident is irrelevant.

“It’s old news,” said David Runciman, director of Claremont Partners, developer of the proposed Catskills casino project, in a statement. “Nonetheless, we thought it was prudent to ask Michael to step aside while the facts were re-examined.”

According to Runciman, “We have concluded, as have regulators in the past, that Michael’s character and fitness are unimpeachable and that certain recent articles were part of a smear campaign, and we have asked him to continue in his role.”

“It’s like ‘Game of Thrones’ with the incest,” a source told the Post. That source said Treanor’s alleged criminal history should disqualify him and the project. “The casino is a business under bright spotlights,” the source said. “You have to be clean as the driven snow. I don’t think you can get away with this running a candy store, let alone a casino.”

Apparently, the source said, Treanor is indispensable to the project.
