Reports from Macau indicate that the judge in the case against former Suncity junket leader Alvin Chau could hear closing arguments on November 21.

According to Asia Gaming Brief, citing reports from TDM Canal Macau, dozens of people are still expected to testify in the case, in which Chau and 20 others are charged with money laundering, illegal gambling, criminal association and fraud. Chau is also charged with running a criminal syndicate.

Through his junket business, Chau allegedly promoted proxy betting that cost Macau casino operators more than $250 million in revenues. The Macau government estimates it lost around $1 billion due to alleged illegal bets facilitated by Suncity. All of the city’s gaming concessionaires are plaintiffs in the case.

Chau was arrested in November 2021. If convicted, the billionaire faces decades in prison.
