Gambling opponent Greg Abbott, Texas' attorney general who's running for governor, invited potential donors to give $5 to his campaign and win prizes if they guessed the score of the Super Bowl game. The fine print said no contributions are required to enter the pool.

Guessing the outcome of the Super Bowl game is not the same as making a wager, said Texas Attorney General and Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott, a longtime opponent of casino gambling. Recently in an email, Abbott made an offer to potential donors, that if they contributed to his campaign and guessed the score of the Super Bowl game, they could win bumper stickers, t-shirts or other prizes.

When questioned about the seeming discrepancy in the candidate’s words and deeds, Abbott’s spokesman Matt Hirsch said, “Read the fine print.”

A disclaimer at the bottom of the email said no contributions are required to enter the pool. Hirsch added, Abbott believes Texas is not ready for expanded legal gambling.
