Cripple Creek, one of Colorado’s three casino cities, has been able to maintain a Covid-19 free zone, even after reopening its casinos last month.
Teller County officials are applauding the safety protocols and sanitation procedures casino operators have employed. This could lead to further reopening of more casino activity, such as table games.
This was discussed at the August 5 meeting of the Cripple Creek City Council, where Interim City Administrator Paul Harris reported that out of the more than 120 cases positively identified in the county, only ten could be traced to the Cripple Creek area, and none to a casino.
Harris said he has witnessed the rigorous sanitation procedures used by the casinos. “They have done a tremendous amount of cleaning,” he said. Customers have also been very cooperative with the rules, he said.
This progress will enable the city to make the case to state health officials that they should grant a variance to state restrictions, said Harris.
