Colorado Casino Unveils $400 Million Expansion

In Black Hawk, Colorado, the Monarch Casino Resort Spa recently completed a decade-long, $400 million expansion including a 516-room hotel with 100 VIP suites. Monarch Director of Marketing Erica Ferris said, “This is a huge leap for our market. These are some of our biggest rooms. Bigger than my house.” She said the 2,000-square-foot penthouse suite offers a pool table, fireplace and spa tubs in the bedrooms. Monarch previously opened a new rooftop pool, spa and restaurants, Ferris said.

City Manager Stephen Cole said, “We didn’t do very well during the pandemic, but now we’re recovering,” thanks in part to new gambling rules that removed limits on gaming. Cole added the expansion also brought more jobs to Black Hawk. “We’re hoping we attract some customers that we didn’t have back in 2019. Customers that would have normally gone to Las Vegas or other venues would stay here at home,” Cole stated.
