Colombia’s gaming regulator Coljuegos has been fighting against illegal gambling operators, Yogonet reported June 7.
It has proceeded against 485 operators for evasion or omission of payments. So far in 2024, Coljuegos, according to a report chronicling its efforts, has destroyed or confiscated 3,986 elements of games of chance and 28,000 slot machines.
Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié said that the amount the operators had evaded was COP 2,300 million ($584,106) so far in 2024. The money raised from this source is used to pay for health care.
His agency is also investigating 681 cases of alleged unauthorized operations for games that include bingo, electronic slots, roulettes and internet wagering.
