Horse Racing Alberta has chosen Austria-based Century Casinos Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of Century Casinos Inc., out of seven competitors to build a million racetrack and casino at Edmonton, Alberta between the RedTail Landing golf course and the Edmonton International Airport.
The Century Mile racetrack is expected to be completed by 2018. The existing Century Downs in Alberta will be used as the model for the new facility, which will be the only one-mile track in Western Canada.
The new facility will be able to house 800 horses and a racino with no more than 1,100 slots.
Century Casinos is expected to break ground soon, possibly before the end of 2016. It has a history of completing racetracks in about year.
