Connecticut Casino Measure Approved

Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy recently signed a measure that will allow the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes to jointly develop and operate a satellite casino along the Interstate 91 corridor in north central Connecticut. The property would compete with the MGM Resorts casino planned for Springfield, Massachusetts.

In a move designed to help the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes compete with the planned MGM Resorts casino in Springfield, Massachusetts, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy recently signed into law a measure that would allow the tribes to issue a request for proposals from municipalities desiring to host one satellite casino.

Tribal officials said they want to develop a casino along the Interstate 91 corridor in north central Connecticut. The tribes own and operate Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resorts Casino, and have said a jointly run facility would help protect jobs at those properties.

The RFP will be posted on the state Department of Consumer of Protection’s website for interested communities to review.
