The bookies are in place. Football season is almost here. But in Connecticut, the first bets can’t be made until certain approvals come through. That means betting likely won’t be available when the NFL season kicks off.

FanDuel and DraftKings still need approval to open their sportsbooks with Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes. The approval depends on a thumbs-up from the Department of the Interior, which could vote on September 9, when the Dallas Cowboys meet the Kansas City Chiefs for the NFL kickoff.

Once operational, Connecticut will become the first New England state with more than one live sportsbook.
