Following a spell of bad weather, the 15,000 square foot Three Rivers Casino Coos Bay in southwestern Oregon now is back on track to open in May 2015. The facility, which will be operated by the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, is expected to be a tourist destination and economic engine for the area, said Tribal Council Chair Bob Garcia. “We’ve been talking about hiring more in range of 80 FTEs and we’ll probably have about 120 bodies on the premises,” he noted.
Chambers Construction project manager Pat Duerr said, “We’re right on schedule, but that of course is always weather permitting. Right now, we’re contending with some issues, but we think we’ll be able to navigate past them because we have a weather window.”
Duerr said all construction materials are on site and a permanent roof will be added soon, allowing masonry and drywall to be completed. He noted once the outside construction is finished, the casino should become fully operational within 30 days.
