Officials at California-based Cora Alpha recently announced they have begun the search to secure funding for Elysium City, its sustainable, “smart city” casino resort project in the Extremadura region in western Spain. The first phase of construction, requiring an investment of $157 million, will start in late 2019 and be completed in 2023; the entire three-phase project is expected to be developed over 20 years, officials said.
Cora Alpha Executive Assistant of Operations Patricia Pedraza Freeman said officials expect 3 million visitors in the first year of operation. She added it initially will create 6,000 jobs and eventually create 55,000-60,000 direct and indirect jobs over the long term.
Director of Communications Ignacio Sojo noted the project will be “a themed leisure park for families.” It will include several hotels and retail, a golf course, three marinas, water park, stadium, 2,000 residences, train station, heliport and data center “since everything will be based around 5G technology,” he said. In addition, Sojo said the project will include four casinos.
Phase two will offer a concert venue, more hotels, a solar power plant, Formula 1 racetrack, equestrian facilities, giant Ferris wheel, floating islands and more, Sojo added.
The Extremadura government has approved the project, which will be based on Greek mythology.
