Nearly two weeks after MGM Resorts International closed on a $1.625 billion deal to acquire the operations of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (“Cosmo”), some former Cosmo executives are leaving the company, while Niklas Rytterstrom has been appointed as their new general manager.
Rytterstrom is a veteran gaming executive, having previously spent time as president and COO of The Mirage, also in Las Vegas. His tenure became official on May 26.
Prior to closing, MGM had already informed state regulators that there would be some shuffling among Cosmo executives once the deal was finalized May 17, but the company affirmed that the moves were voluntary decisions rather than lay-offs or firings.
Aside from Rytterstrom’s predecessor, Patrick Nichols, MGM has not disclosed the other Cosmo executives who have left thus far, or their future plans. In an emailed statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, MGM representatives said that “some members of The Cosmopolitan’s leadership team have made the decision to pursue new opportunities.”
There were, however, multiple internal promotions that were announced. Edith LaVoie, former senior vice president-corporate controller, was named chief financial officer; Senior Vice President of Casino Marketing Danny Ruiz will manage all slot operations and slot marketing; and Vice President of People Adriana Kasunic will oversee additional human resources-related duties.
