Cotai Ferry a Boon for Macau

The planned 2016 debut of a new ferry terminal with helipad on Macau’s Cotai Strip is being hailed as a “game changer” for the vicinity that will enable elite gamblers to come more often and stay longer.

A new ferry terminal will open at Pac On on Macau’s Cotai Strip next year, and Daiwa Securities says it has the potential to substantially boost tourism traffic to the city.

According to a report cited in the World Casino Directory, the ferry will be able of handle 40 ferries per hour, a big improvement over the four ferries per hour now managed by a temporary terminal. The new terminal will also feature the Taipa-Cotai region’s first commercial helipads, meaning shorter commutes and possibly, longer stays for high rollers.

“A high proportion of these clients travel to Macau via helicopter, and based on our checks, these patrons share a common characteristic: namely, their sensitivity to time, against travelling to Macau via ferries, travelling via helicopter saves a marginal 40-45 minutes per trip,” Daiwa noted.

The terminal was originally to have opened in 2009, reported WCD. Though no investment figures were disclosed, the terminal cost “in excess of five times what the project was originally budgeted for.”
