The county council of Maryland’s Anne Arundel County is considering a measure that would approve the issuance of bonds for up to .5 million to build a hotel and conference center behind the Maryland Live! casino in the Baltimore suburb of Hanover.
The measure would create a tax increment development district and a fund to allocate the difference between current and future tax levies to secure the bonds. Under the bill, sponsored by Councilman Pete Smith, the conference center could be used for free by the Board of Education, Anne Arundel Community College and nonprofit organizations. Preliminary plans for the project were submitted to the county last fall.
