Coushatta Tribe Breaks Ground on Resort Expansions

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 20 for the start of construction on expansions and upgrades at the Coushatta Tribe’s Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana.

The public is invited to the event which will feature tribal dancers and drummers, said Tribal Chairman Jonathan Cernek.

The project will include an 8-story, 204-room luxury hotel, increasing the resort’s capacity to more than 1,000 rooms. Coushatta Casino Director of Marketing Bobby Thornton said, “It will be half suites, all high end.” The hotel, scheduled for completion in late 2025, is estimated to cost more than $150 million and create 150 to 200 new jobs. Thornton said a name has not been selected for the hotel but it will have tribal significance. “The tribe is interested in reviving the culture,” he said.

Following completion of the hotel, a second phase of construction would include renovating the casino floor and restaurants and possibly adding more dining options, Thornton said.

The expansion was designed by TBE Architects. The contractor is Yates Construction and the Wenaha Group will oversee construction.

Cernek said, “As construction commences, we are excited about all the new venues and upgrades that we will be able to offer our guests, starting with this new hotel. Our goal is to offer our players an elevated gaming experience and that includes top-quality lodgings and high-end dining options. The Coushatta Tribe is leading the way in building an unsurpassed resort destination, both in the local market and in the entire region.”
