Covid-19 Hurts Swedish Online Casinos

Swedish online casinos have seen a rapid decline in sales since government restrictions were imposed in July for the Covid-19 pandemic. Online gaming companies have seen an about 30 percent decline in monthly turnover.

Swedish online casinos have been hit hard since July – when Covid-19 rules went into effect – with an about 30 percent decline in monthly turnover.

Sweden’s government introduced a deposit limit of SEK5,000 per week on 2 July, in addition to the limit of SEK100 on bonus offers. The restrictions were meant to slow the rise of problem gambling behavior during the lockdowns associated with the pandemic.

According to online reports, ComeOn Group saw a fall in sales from June to August, dropping from SEK118 million to SEK83 million during that period.

Spooniker meanwhile saw their turnover decrease from SEK101m to SEK72m, according to Swedish media outlet News 55.

Sports betting companies, however, are reporting increases as professional sports leagues resume play and racing has returned.
