Covid Changes Customer Profile at Mohegan Sun

When Mohegan Sun reopened after more than three months following the Covid-19 shutdown, the customer profile had changed a bit. Casino officials discovered patrons were willing to drive farther to get there than before.

Covid Changes Customer Profile at Mohegan Sun

One of the side effects of the Covid-19 pandemic Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, one of the largest casino resorts in New England, is a noticeably altered customer profile.

Drive-in patrons once came within a two-hour radius and included people from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Now, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment CEO Mario Kontomerkos told CDC Gaming Reports, “We’ve seen that time increase to up to three hours. There’s a mentality of wanting to get away, and we wanted our guests to know this property is the safest place they can go.”

MGE spent more than $1 million on health, safety and sanitization protocols during the three months the casino resort was closed.

The property has also introduced social distancing into its huge 364,000-square-foot gaming floor, cut the number of slot machines, and reduced how many people can sit at gaming tables. It requires face masks for all as well as thermal screenings. Restaurants offer fewer menu items and hotel rooms have new sanitation features.
