Croatia Licenses First Online Poker Room

Croatia has issued an online gaming license to SuperSport, which launched the country’s first licensed online poker room this month. Operators in the country must own a land-based casino there.

SuperSport has launched an online poker room in Croatia, the first to be licensed in the country.

Croatia requires online operators to also own a land-based casino in the country. SuperSport owns more than 300 street shops in Croatia and a land-based casino. The company had sought to launch in mid-2016, but the licenses issued by Croatia, which cost €600,000, run only for the calendar year.

SuperSport accepts international players, but officials said they expect 90 percent of their initial business to be from Croatia.

“We want to develop in line with player liquidity that the poker network is going to bring,” Vedran Katic, head of poker for SuperSport said in a press statement. “For example, if we want to have fast-fold poker, want to have lottery-style sit & go tournaments and want to have all these popular types of games, you have to have quite big liquidity. For now we are just focusing on the basics and we will have a mobile version and probably a web browser version in addition to the downloadable software currently available for both the PC and Mac.”
