“Secret” negotiations, but no deal
Australian casino giant Crown Resorts says it is not in line to operate the ASF Consortium’s planned five-story waterfront casino on the Gold Coast’s Spit, according to local media.
The consortium, led by China State Construction Engineering, had announced it was seeking a “Tier 1” casino operator and “at least one other cornerstone entity” to complete the team, the Australian reported. ASF has been negotiating with the Queensland government to develop a casino at an area called the Spit.
Last year, Crown Resorts reportedly conducted secret negotiations with ASF to build and operate the casino, but those talks apparently came to naught. A Crown spokesman said James Packer’s company had no agreement or contract in place with ASF Group or ASF Consortium.
“We’ve had talks with them but Crown has no agreement with ASF Group,” the spokesman said.
