Crown Resorts Debuts New PlaySafe RG Program

In efforts to improve its responsible gaming and harm minimization efforts, Australian operator Crown Resorts has unveiled its new Crown PlaySafe program, intended to better identify and stop problem gambling behavior.

The program, which will replace its existing framework, will include mandatory carded play and pre-commitment for all gaming machines, as well as a new self-exclusion portal, bolstered data monitoring systems, marketing restrictions and more.

Additionally, the new program also includes specific individual requirements for Crown’s different properties—for example, all electronic table games at Crown Sydney will be converted to cashless play, and machines located inside Crown Perth will be subject to maximum bets of just AU$10.

A new committee dedicated to responsible gambling research and development, led by Dr. Jamie Wiebe, was also formed as part of Crown PlaySafe.

In a release, the company said it would soon introduce new marketing and web materials for the program, as well as renaming personnel titles and facilities.

“The plan addresses new and emerging challenges associated with gambling harm, including how we improve our understanding of gambling participation and develop new harm reduction concepts and idea,” Crown CEO Ciarán Carruthers said in the release.

“With a focus on collaboration and engagement with government, industry and community-based partners, I am confident that together we can reduce gambling harm and create a safer gambling future for all Australians.”
