Australia-based CrownBet must pay a ,000 fine for illegal betting ads run in NSW.

Liquor and Gaming NSW last week announced CrownBet had been convicted on five charges of publishing ads that induced NSW residents to lay wagers. The ads offered reward bonus points for wagering on AFL, NBA, and Melbourne Cup contests.

An investigation indicated CrownBet committed five separate violations of Australian advertising laws in October and December.

CrownBet pleaded guilty to the five charges and agreed to pay a $10,500 fine, plus another $10,000 to cover the legal costs for the Liquor and Gaming NSW.

CrownBet told the Australian Business Review that administrative errors led to the violations, and it is working closely with regulators to prevent further violations.

The Office of Liquor and Gaming says it won’t tolerate gambling inducements of any type in the state. Last year, it prosecuted CrownBet, UniBet, Bet365, and Tabcorp Holdings for violations arising from their marketing activities.
