Curacao Probe May be Under Way

A recent letter from the Dutch Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations said that Curacao would have to investigate ties between the government and illegal gambling.

Ronald van Raak, the Dutch MP for the Socialist Party recently questioned close ties between the government in Curacao and the gambling industry, which is illegal. Dutch Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk, in a letter, wrote that Curacao would be responsible for the investigation itself.

“Supervision of casinos and lotteries is an autonomous matter of Curacao. This also applies to law enforcement in general. It is therefore up to the prosecution of Curacao to investigate the possible suspicions of money laundering,” Plasterk said. He also stated there was a 2014 investigation into financial and economic crime.
