Cyprus OKs Casino Regulations

The Cyprian cabinet last week approved legislation that regulates the operation of casinos on the island. The bill, which controls the types of games, equipment as well as the actual casino venues will now be submitted to parliament for approval.

The government of Cyprus is considering a casino regulation bill that would create an island gaming authority and includes provisions detailing the types of games and equipment approved for the gaming halls, the limits of betting levels, as well as the actual venues housing the casino.

According to the Cyprus Mail, the bill also includes rules about underage and problem gambling.

The law provides for resorts with at least 500 rooms, at least 100 gaming tables and at least 1,000 gaming machines, the Mail reported. Under the bill, operators can create four other off-site premises with a maximum of 50 gaming machines each, but no casino games will be allowed. The gaming rights for these satellite locations are not transferrable. Integrated resorts on the island can operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And smoking will be allowed on the gaming floor.
