The Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Authority has commissioned three separate companies to look at international junket operators before they’re permitted to work at City of Dreams Mediterranean, the Melco Resorts casino complex now under construction in Limassol.
The $500 million resort is set to open in 2021.
The companies hail from the UK, the U.S. and Cyprus/Malta. They will conduct due diligence checks on prospective junket partners to ensure they have no ties to illegal activities such as money laundering and terrorism financing.
“We want the Cyprus casino to operate on the basis of international standards of full transparency, especially at a time when international pressure on Cyprus is increasing because of the citizenship by investment program and provision of passports to persons with criminal records,” according to a statement from the authority.
