Spillemyndigheden, Denmark’s gambling regulator, received permission from City Court to block illegal gambling websites. Proceedings began in early March, and the court sided with the gaming authority after confirming people used these illegal sites.
The authority offered as evidence screenshots from the websites which proved active gambling occurred without a permit, according to Gambling Insider.
As the website blocks get underway, the ISPs appealed to district court.
The authority has blocked 55 sites, the highest number ever in the nine years of activity.
“The record-high number clearly shows there is a need for a targeted effort, and we will therefore maintain this increased focus in the future,” Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Anders Dorph, said. “At the same time, we must ensure the providers who are licensed to offer games in Denmark can run their business under orderly conditions.”
