De Niro, Packer, Building Barbuda Casino

Australian entrepreneur James Packer and legendary actor Robert De Niro (l.) are investing $250 million to develop a casino on Barbuda. They’ll name their proposed casino resort Paradise Found, which would include a casino, 50 cottages and villas, plus six more located over the water.

They also intend to build a marina capable of mooring large yachts, boat moorings, and an airstrip to serve the casino.

Australian entrepreneur James Packer and legendary actor Robert De Niro are investing $250 million to develop a casino on Barbuda.

The pair petitioned the Barbuda government the past two years and recently gained approval to buy and develop a 251-acre parcel on the Caribbean island’s Coco Point.

The site houses the shuttered K Club Resort, and De Niro and Packer intend to lease an adjacent 304-acre parcel.

They say they’ll name their proposed casino resort Paradise Found, which would include a casino, 50 cottages and villas, plus six more located over the water.

They also intend to build a marina capable of mooring large yachts, boat moorings, and an airstrip to serve the casino.

The pair paid a $6 million fee to obtain a 196-year lease on the K Circle property and say they will have to spend another $250 to dismantle buildings in disrepair and build new ones.

Barbuda is located north of Antigua and southeast of Anguilla in the Caribbean Islands.

While Antigua has seven small casinos, with the largest offering 350 slots at the King’s Casino in St. John’s, Barbuda has none.
