Deadwood Could Take Bets by July 1

Voters approved sports betting in Deadwood, the South Dakota town with a rich history. What’s next?

The legislature and Governor, along with the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, need to develop regulations. If everything goes smoothly, the first bet could be taken on July 1. Sports wagering can also be done using mobile devices to bet anywhere in the state.

Meantime, David Schneiter, general manager of Cadillac Jacks in Deadwood, is thinking of how to add a sports betting lounge area in the casino.

“We’ve got some ideas that we’re kicking around so it’s exciting,” Schneiter said. “We’ve got employees that, ‘Hey I’m interested in a sportsbook, I want to be involved in sportsbook’ so we’ve got a lot of interest within our staff.”
