Delta Corp. Expanding into Nepal

India casino operator Delta Corp. has announced a deal to run a casino in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The casino will operate out of a 235-room Marriott Hotel (l.) now under development in Kathmandu’s Naxal region.

Hotel to open in 2018

A subsidiary of Delta Corp. Ltd., India’s only listed gaming company, has signed a deal to operate a casino in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu. The venture is the firm’s first expansion outside the India gaming market.

The agreement, signed with Everest Hospitality and Hotel Pvt Ltd., calls for the Deltin Group to lease space at the “upcoming five-star Marriott Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal,” reported the company in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Everest is a subsidiary of Nepal-based hospitality firm MS Group, reported GGRAsia. The 235-room hotel is scheduled to open next year.

“Delta will initiate steps to obtain a casino license from the government of Nepal and the commencement of operations of the casino will be subject to receipt of this license,” stated the casino firm in the filing. “With this proposed casino in Kathmandu, Delta aims to expand its imprint outside India, in line with its strategy of expanding in the region.”

Delta Corp., controlled by businessman Jaydev Mody, currently operates four casinos: three floating operations off the Indian state of Goa, and one land-based in the state of Sikkim. According to CalvinAyre.com, Delta recently acquired the company behind India’s largest online poker site, Adda52.com.
