India’s foremost gaming operator, Delta Corp., has reopened its Casino Deltin Denzong in Sikkim thanks to relaxed Covid protocols in the northeastern state. But its Goa casinos, closed since April, will remain shuttered for now due to ongoing health and safety mandates. Delta operates three offshore casinos on the Mandovi River in Goa, as well as the Deltin Suites hotel and casino.
In a filing, Delta said, “The casinos operated by the company and its subsidiaries in Goa will remain closed during this period. We are unable to estimate the quantum of potential losses on account of this temporary closure and the pandemic at this time. … We will follow all the safety norms laid down by the state in this regards.”
According to Inside Asian Gaming, India has gone from a peak of more than 400,000 cases a day to 34,703 earlier this month. Goa reached a high of 4,195 cases in a single day on May 7, but has fallen to about 130.
