India-based gaming operator Delta Corp Ltd. recently disclosed that it expects “to commence soon” operating a casino at the Marriot Hotel in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It will be Delta’s first venture outside India.
“Our subsidiary in Nepal has been issued a license for operating a casino in Nepal,” Delta Corp. confirmed in a January 9 filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
In 2017, Delta signed a deal with Everest Hospitality and Hotel Pvt Ltd. to lease space at the 214-room hotel, which did not open until July 2019. Everest Hospitality and Hotel is a subsidiary of Nepal-based hospitality firm MS Group.
According to GGRAsia, Delta has been planning to expand outside India “in line with its strategy of expanding in the region.” The company, controlled by businessman Jaydev Mody, currently operates casinos in the Indian states of Goa and Sikkim.
Nepal has several casinos, including Tiger Palace Resort Bhairahawa, operated by Silver Heritage Group Ltd., near the border with the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Silver Heritage also manages gaming at the Millionaire’s Club and Casino, in Kathmandu.
