Denmark Fines Streamer for Illegal Gambling ads

Spillemyndigheden, Denmark’s gaming regulator, has fined a Twitch streamer DKK10,000 (£1,153/$1,466/€1,341) for advertising gambling services without having a Danish license, Gaming Intelligence reported August 30.

The regulator said in a statement: “If a gambling operator does not hold a license to provide gambling in Denmark, the operator must not market its gambling offers in neither print, electronic, nor social media.”

This is the first time the authority has reported a streamer to the police for illegal gaming ads. The country recently blocked 49 illegal gambling sites following a complaint by the authority.

In a related development the gaming operator Tipwin, which is based in Malta, was fined DKK100,000 ($14,500/€13,400/£11,500) by Spillemyndigheden for violating the Danish Money Laundering Act. The violation was reported last year. The regulator accused the operator of grossly and negligently violating rules of risk assessments, policies and internal controls, reported Gaming Intelligence.
