The website for Russia’s Parliament has revealed some details on new taxes proposed on online gambling in the country.

According to the site, a tax rate for sites using the Russian Gambling Transaction Payment processing System will be about 3 million rubles, or about $45,000. In cases when the tax rates are not determined by the laws of a particular province or region, a bookmaker will have to pay a tax of 2.5 million rubles to the processing system.

Players will not be taxed unless they win more than 4,000 rubles, but bookmakers will have to collect taxes for wins above 15,000 rubles under the legislation, which is expected to become effective early in 2017.

Meanwhile, Russkaya Planeta reported that Russian MP Ilya Kostunov of the ruling United Russia party is preparing a bill that will ban online betting across the nation. Kostunov said the bill will protect underage and problem gamblers, the paper said.
