Detroit’s three casinos posted a record $1.44 billion in combined revenue for 2018, an increase of $20 million from the previous record of $1.42 billion in 2011, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
Both MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity Casino reported record-breaking totals. MGM Grand posted $619.2 million in revenue, beating the previous record of $604.9 million set in 2012. Annual revenue increased 4.6 percent from 2017. MotorCity Casino posted 2018 revenue of $489.7 million, which surpassed the previous record of $480.2 million set in 2007. Its revenue increased 2.3 percent from 2017.
Greektown Casino reported $335.2 million in revenue in 2018, lower than the record $352.8 million set in 2011. Its revenue rose 1.7 percent from 2017.
The three casinos reported an overall 3.1 percent increase over 2017. Slots brought in $1.17 billion, 81 percent of revenue, and table games generated $272 million, 19 percent of revenue. The state of Michigan reaped $117 million in gaming tax revenue, up from $113.4 million in 2017. The city of Detroit received $182.9 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments.
