One of the largest developments ever proposed for the Isle of Man’s capital city, Douglas, would include a casino, according to project officials.
Project developer Altostratus Limited has revealed plans for a 3-story entertainment center, car park and offices, including the Palace Hotel & Casino, which would move from its current location on Douglas Promenade, according to Chief Executive Brett Martin.
“Douglas really as a town has not seen any major commercial developments for quite some time. I think this will probably be the biggest for a number of decades, and in an area that really needs development around the ferry port,” Martin said.
Altostratus officials said the company will purchase the land for the project in the Middlemarch site, currently being used as a parking lot, pending construction approval. The proposal includes office space and a 250-space parking facility. The Palace Hotel & Casino would occupy two of the three floors, featuring a sports bar, conference rooms and events areas−”all the stuff that goes with a modern casino,” Martin said.
ADG Architects Partner John Bell confirmed the Palace Hotel & Casino would be the site’s main tenant. He said the new complex would “help link the growing leisure offering on the North Quay with the well-established shopping and business districts.”
