Developers Request Margaritaville Expansion

Barrington Development recently asked the Biloxi, Mississippi city council for permission to create a $12 million, 154-room all-suite hotel from the former Santa Maria senior housing tower, a Hurricane Katrina eyesore. Barrington earlier restored the White House Hotel and former Casino Magic Hotel to create the Margaritaville Resort.

At a recent meeting of the city council of Biloxi, Mississippi, officials at Barrington Development—developers of the Margaritaville Resort Biloxi–requested a zoning change to build a 154-room all-suite hotel, to be named Watermark, in the former Santa Maria senior housing tower.

Barrington restored the White House Hotel and converted and expanded the former Casino Magic Hotel—two former Hurricane Katrina eyesores–to create the Margaritaville Resort in East Biloxi.

Company attorney Michael Cavanaugh said vintage photos of old Biloxi will establish the theme of the $12 million project.

In the future, Barrington officials said they also would like to add another hotel, more restaurants, convention space and a giant Ferris wheel on adjacent property in East Biloxi.
