Following a year of planning, the Discover D’Iberville brand, identifying the Mississippi city as a tourism destination, is ready to launch. Director of Economic Development and City Planner Jeff Taylor said Discover D’Iberville will promote the city’s heritage and its tourism offerings, including attractions, restaurants and shopping venues, via social media, a website, mobile applications and more. “Thousands of people drive along the interstates through D’Iberville every day but do not have any idea what is located off the exits,” Taylor said, adding the city will pay the startup costs for Discover D’Iberville and the additional revenues generated will pay for more advertising.
Taylor explained the city is prepared to become a tourist destination due to new interstate access ramps and the opening of the Scarlet Pearl Resort & Casino, South Mississippi’s 12th casino.
With the motto “We Take Play Seriously,” the Scarlet Pearl offers 1,350 slot machines and 45 table games. The 18-story hotel features 300 rooms, including 10 penthouse suites, all with Back Bay or Mississippi Sound views.
Dining options include Under the Oak Café, the Waterfront Buffet and the Chopstx Noodle Bar. Other amenities include the Strand theater and PRL bar, plus a tropical swimming pool and Lava Links, a 36-hole miniature golf course featuring an erupting volcano.
