DOI’s Haaland Begins First Tribal Listening Tour

Newly installed Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland has begun the first of what promises to be several “listening” tours of tribal leaders, this time in New Mexico and Utah.

The first meeting was held with the All Pueblo Council of Governors in Albuquerque, a gathering that was also attended by the state’s congressional delegation and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. She heard the tribes’ experience with the Covid pandemic.

The topic was protecting public health, the environment and reviewing conditions of national monuments as well as sites sacred to tribes.

The secretary has also been talking to climate change alarmists.
