With option to buy
Asian casino operator Donaco International has taken over the management of a new casino floor at Star Paradise in Poipet, Cambodia, home of Donaco’s Star Vegas Resort and Club. The room with 40 tables and space for 50 slot machines opened last month.
In its annual report published in September, Donaco said it is “managing the newly constructed gaming floor for a monthly fee” of THB5 million (US$144,173). The room will operate under the Star Vegas gaming license.
Donaco holds an exclusive option to purchase the entire Star Paradise operation, including the hotel, reports GGRAsia. “By managing this gaming operation we are well positioned to assess the attractiveness of this business to the Donaco group,” the firm said in its annual report.
Donaco Executive Director Ben Reichel told GGRAsia the room’s performance “has met expectations, with a number of VIP junkets and players sampling the new facilities.”
The company, based in New South Wales, currently owns and operates two casino properties, the Aristo International Hotel in Vietnam and the Star Vegas Resort in Cambodia, both border properties that draw heavily from the gambling populations of China and Thailand. In August, the company posted a net profit of AUD77.2 million (US$59.2 million) for the 12 months to June 30.
