Donaco’s Star Vegas Reopens Gaming After Pandemic Closure

The Star Vegas Club and Casino, which is located along the Thai-Cambodian border and operated by Australian-based Donaco International Ltd., has restarted its gaming operations as of June 18.

Until 2020, Star Vegas had been Donaco’s crown property in terms of gaming revenue, before the Covid-19 pandemic forced it to close for more than two years.

In a statement, the company confirmed that “the government of Cambodia and the relevant local authorities have lifted the temporary closure of casino operations in the Banteay Meanchey province, where Star Vegas is located.”

Donaco also said that Star Vegas would first open in a limited capacity, then “progressively advance towards full operational capabilities over the coming months.”

The Star’s reopening coincides with the opening of the Cambodian border with Thailand—Donaco has said that the Thai demographic is one of the largest for that particular property.

Even though the casino will likely experience a surge of revenue right away, Donaco is still feeling the financial effects of two-plus years of closures. The company did mention that it needed to exercise “prudent control of corporate and operation costs,” and that it will “take some time” before operations can return to pre-Covid levels.
