In just a couple of months, Las Vegas casinos, hotels, and other businesses can brand their ventures by using the .Vegas domain extension. A company called Dot Vegas Inc. has partnered with the city of Las Vegas to acquire the domain extension.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that those with trademarked brands, along with local Las Vegas companies and individuals, have the first opportunity to register,” Jim Trevino, CEO of Dot Vegas told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We particularly encourage locals to secure their .Vegas domains before the registry opens for general availability.”
By one estimate, the number of .Vegas domain names will exceed 900,000, he said.
“This is another exciting milestone for Las Vegas,” said Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman. “Las Vegas is easily one of the world’s most recognized brands, and now, through this highly strategic and exclusive opportunity, our city will further expand its presence on the Internet.”
City officials say Las Vegas will earn revenue based on the number of domain names, as well as annual renewals. Dot Vegas, Inc. will exclusively manage and operate rights to the domain, the Review-Journal reported.
