Dover Downs Closes Poker Room

Dover Downs in Delaware has closed its poker room and moved its poker tables to the main floor, with the loss of only one position reported.

Delaware’s Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, which recently was purchased by Twin River Worldwide Holdings Inc., has closed its poker room and moved its poker tables to the main casino floor.

The move touched off speculation that the closing was part of a major staff reduction, but casino management quelled those rumors with a press release noting that only one job—the former poker director—was lost as a result of the move.

“Today is our first day of poker on the floor, so we do have poker!” said Nicholas Polcino, the property’s new vice president and general manager, in the press statement. “There will be no poker room on the third floor anymore. The poker tables now on the casino floor answer to table games and no longer operate as a separate entity.

“All other personnel that could be transferred to table games were transferred. The employees that only had poker experience have been given the opportunity to learn other games as well, so they are able to transfer between various games if they desire.”
